In 1948, Our Lady's School was established in Downey, California by the Sisters of Notre Dame.  In 1998, O.L.P.H. celebrated with the theme "50 Years of Educational Excellence Bringing Three Generations Closer to God."   In 2008 it was the school's 60th anniversary.

Our reunion celebration in 2002

Our first All-Class Reunion and Sunday brunch was held on September 29, 2002 at the Rio Hondo Country Club, 10627 Old River School Road, Downey, California from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.  The 9:30 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church that morning was dedicated to the alumni.  The school was open to viewing after Mass and before the brunch.  You may view photos of the reunion by clicking on the "Photos" buttons.

In order to comply with changed California State safety laws, our parish school needed to replace the aging playground equipment.  The equipment was over 40 years old and many of you have used it throughout the years.  Through various financial assistance from foundations, alumni, fundraisers, local businesses, and school and parish families, the dream was realized in a ceremony on Friday, November 22, 2002 when the school invited the students, faculty and staff in celebrating the dedication of the new equipment.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help School opened on September 13, 1948 in temporary quarters with a staff of three Sisters of Notre Dame.  There were 124 students in grades one through six.  Eight classrooms were built the following year and eventually eight more were built.  Beginning in 1971, one class was phased out each year.  In 1976, a kindergarten was added and several empty classrooms were made into labs.  Since the school year 1979-1980, single grades include students in K through 8.
